Amazon Development Centre South Africa is looking for people passionate about solving
problems and delighting customers.
Amazon Web Services provides Amazon's developer
customers with access to in-the-cloud infrastructure services based on Amazon's own back-end
technology platform, which developers can use to enable virtually any type of business. The
Cape Town based Development Center plays a key role in building the
Amazon Elastic Compute
Cloud (Amazon EC2).
What can you expect from a life in the Amazon Cloud? You will be surrounded by people who
are wickedly smart, passionate about cloud computing, and believe that world class support
is critical to customer success. You'll work with customers to understand how they're using
our services, and provide feedback to the development teams, as well as working directly
with engineers on those teams to ensure that customer issues are resolved as expediently as
possible. You'll represent Amazon and EC2 when customers want help using our services, and
you'll drive customer communication during EC2 critical events.
Do you enjoy playing with new and interesting technologies? Do you relish the challenge of
solving thorny technical issues? Do you enjoy building tools to automate or simplify the diagnosis
of those same thorny technical issues?

Successful candidates must:
- have demonstrated proficiency in one or more of these areas:
- Systems administration (Linux and/or Windows)
- Networking (DNS, IPsec, BGP, VPN, Load Balancing)
- Programming / scripting (Java, Perl, Ruby, C#, and/or PHP)
- strong data analytics skills highly desirable
- have excellent oral and written communication skills
- have a strong customer focus
- have the ability to juggle many tasks and projects in a fast-moving environment
- be a self-starter who is excited about technology.
Successful candidates should also ideally have:
- a degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- experience working directly with customers
